Three Cardinals Named All-GLIAC

BAY CITY, Mich. - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2012 All-GLIAC Softball Teams and Postseason Awards in conjunction with the Conference's annual Softball Tournament at the Marathon Diamonds in Findlay, Ohio. The awards were voted on by the conference softball coaches in ballot format.

The Saginaw Valley State Univeristy softball team placed three players on the 2012 All-GLIAC teams today (Apr. 27).  Senior catcher Natalie Wellman (Fairhaven, Mich./Anchor Bay HS) was selected 2nd Team All-GLIAC, while senior infielder Ashley Coffin (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson HS) and sophomore infielder Lindsay Hayward (Ancaster, Ont.) were selected Honorable Mention All-GLIAC.

Wellman started all 46 games for the Cardinals this season, hitting .315 with a team-leading 46 hits, 27 RBI's, 13 doubles and four homeruns.  Coffin also started all 46 games this year, finishing the season with a .297 average and 44 hits, while Hayward led the Cardinals with a .352 batting average in 46 games this season with 44 hits and a team high 23 walks.

The Cardinals finished the season with an overall record of 21-25 and a 14-18 mark in the GLIAC.
