Cardinals Soar at the Eastern Michigan University Classic

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's cross country teams competed Saturday (Oct. 23) in the Eastern Michigan University Classic. 

The Cardinals held their own in a very competitive field of runners and were led by senior Jeff Wilson (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon HS) who placed fourth overall with a final 5K time of 15:36.0.  Following Wilson was sophomore teammate Tyler Noble (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) who clocked in at 15:52.3, good enough for 16th place.  Coming in behind Noble was junior runner Jonathan Wetters (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) who crossed the line at 16:19.0.  Filling in the last two spots in SVSU's top-five were freshmen Chad Scott (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS) and Matt Kabacinski (Bay City, Mich./Bay City Western HS) clocking in at 16:25.2 and 16:27.4, respectively.

The lady Cardinals also competed very well in this competitive field of runners and were led by junior Jean Hollerbach (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Point HS) who finished the 5K with a time of 18:54.0, good enough for 15th place.  Folloing close behind Hollerbach was sophomore Chelsea Savage (Monroe, Mich./St. Mary's Catholic Central) who finished with a final time of 19:01.6.  Finishing after Savage was junior teammate Megan Pittoors (Macomb, Mich./Dakota HS) who clocked in at 19:15.5 on the day.  Rounding out Saginaw's top-5 were teammates Dana Stolicker (Deckerville, Mich./Deckerville HS) and Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) finishing with times of 19:45.7 and 19:52.5, respectively.   

Saginaw Valley will be back in action again Saturday (Nov. 6) as they travel to Hillsdale College to compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Cross Country Championships.
