CHICAGO, Ill. - The Saginaw Valley State University men’s cross country team competed Saturday (Oct. 3) in the 37th Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational held in Chicago, Illinois.

The Cardinals placed seventh overall with three runners finishing in the top 25. Leading the way for the Cardinals was senior Steve Genther (Laingsburg, Mich. / Laingsburg HS) crossing the line at 25:30, placing him 8th, with sophomore Nick Ekel (Elsie, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie HS) finishing right on his heels at 25:31, placing him 9th. Following Genther and Ekel were seniors Derek Stone (Metamora, Mich. / Lapeer East HS) (25:54) and Ben Richards (Goodrich, Mich. / Goodrich HS) (26:51), finishing 23rd and 74th overall, respectively. Completing the Cardinals top five was freshman Marion Body (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Cousino HS) timing in at 27:40.

The Cards compete again Friday (Oct. 9) in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships held in Grand Rapids, Michigan beginning promptly at 3:30pm.
