UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley
State University men’s cross country team competed at home
today (Sept. 25), hosting the Cardinal Invitational.
The Cardinals competed extremely well, finishing tied for second
with a very competitive Wayne State University. Leading the pack
for the Cards was sophomore Nick Ekel (Elsie,
Mich. / Ovid-Elsie HS), who crossed the line with a time of 25:41,
placing him in third overall. Immediately following Ekel were
seniors Derek
Stone (25:47) (Metamora, Mich. / Lapeer East HS) and Cortland Seaver
(25:55) (Freeland, Mich. / Freeland HS), finishing fourth and
fifth, respectively. Rounding out the Cardinals’ top five
were freshman Tyler
Noble (Shepherd , Mich. / Shepherd HS) and sophomore Derek Welmers
(Standish, Mich. / Standish-Sterling HS), who timed in at 26:49 and
26:58, respectively.
Saginaw Valley will compete again next weekend at 11am on Saturday
(Oct. 3) at the Loyola Invitational held in Chicago, Ill.
