Men, Women Run Hard at Michigan Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships

MILFORD, Mich. - The SVSU men’s and women’s cross country teams finished in 7th and 9th place respectively in the 2008 Michigan Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships on Friday.

The Cardinal men were led by junior Steve Genther (Lainsburg, Mich.), who turned in an overall time of 26 minutes, good enough for an 8th place finish, followed by junior Cortland Seaver (Freeland, Mich.) who finished 26 seconds later in 16th place. Cardinal sophomore Derek Stone (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer East) came in 50th place at 27:33. Sophomore Jesse Evans (Cheboygan, Mich.) crossed the finish line at 27:45, just six spots back from Stone, while freshman Nick Ekel (Elsie, Mich./Ovid-Else HS) finished three seconds later, good for 58th place overall. Sophomore Jeff Wilson (South Lyon, Mich.) finished in 28:37, junior Ben Richards (Goodrich, Mich.) came in at 29:16 and Len Weddel finished the race at 31:17.

The Cardinal women were led by junior Maggie Stalker (Oscoda, Mich./Oscoda HS) who finished in 17th place overall with a time of 19:45, followed by freshman Chelsea Savage (Monroe, Mich.) who finished in 20:10, good for 32nd overall, while junior Amber Catlin (Alma, Mich./Alma HS) finished in 20:30 good for 37th place, while junior Rachel Trombley (Reese, Mich./Reese HS) came in 45th with a time of 20:42. Junior Amanda Roache (Mt. Morris, Mich.) finished the race in 54th at 20:52, junior Libby Robinson (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley HS) came in 62nd at 21:05, freshman Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich.) clocked in at 21:08 for 63rd and senior Elayna Dush (Sanford, Mich./Meridian HS) came in at 21:09 for 65th place overall.

For the meet, the Cardinal men finished with an overall score of 188 and averaged 27:06 as a team, good enough for 7th place, while the women finished with 215, and averaged 20:35 to come in 9th place overall.
