Track Teams Compete in Day One of GLIAC Championships

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University indoor track & field teams competed in day one of the 2014 GLIAC Indoor Championships on Saturday (Mar. 1).  With only several events scored and most events' finals coming on Sunday, the Cardinals has several solid performances on the opening day.

Diamond Taylor posted a 7th place finish in the 400 meter dash preliminaries with a time of 58.70.  That finish qualifies her for Sunday's finals in the event.

The women's distance medley relay team, consisting of Taylor, Chantell Fondren, Kimberly Balls and Emily Short posted an NCAA provisional time of 12:03.26.

Emerald Joiner added another provisional time for SVSU, posting a mark of 56'6.5" in the weight throw.

On the men's side, Joey Burelle ran to a provisional time in the 5,000 meter run, placing fourth in the event with a time of 14:53.80.

D'Omar Boyden also finished well for SVSU, qualifying for Sunday's 60 meter hurdles with a preliminary time of 8.21, also a provisional mark.

The two teams will continue with the final day of competition on Sunday.
