Track Teams Finish Competition At GVSU Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University track & field teams wrapped-up competition on Saturday (Feb. 15) in day two of the 2014 GVSU Big Meet.

On the women's side, freshman Anna Fochesato posted an NCAA Division II Provisional qualifying mark in the high jump, setting a school record in the process.  She cleared a height of 1.73 meters in the event.  Fochesato would follow that performance with a 3rd place finish in the triple jump, posting a mark of 11.37 meters.

Fellow freshman Domonique Smith placed fifth in the 60 meter dash, crossing the line with a time of 7.93.  

In the 60 meter hurdles, freshmen Bria and Tierra Williams finished 5th and 6th with times of 9.22 and 9.23, respectively.

The men's 4 x 400 meter relay team, consisting of juniors James Walker and Travis Toye, along with sophomore Josh Simmons and freshman Andrew Mudd, ran to a 2nd place finish with a time of 3:20.72, losing by just .57 seconds.

Toye would then team-up with seniors Joey Burelle and DaJuawn Wallace and freshman Andrew Middleton to place 4th in the Distance Medley with a time of 10:10.44.

Junior Robert Tarpley had a good showing in the triple jump, marking a length of 12.63 meters while placing fourth.

The Cardinals are off until the 2014 GLIAC Indoor Championships, which are set to take place March 1-2 at Hillsdale College.
