ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track & field teams competed in day one of the GVSU Big Meet on Friday (Feb. 14). In a meet filled with many participants and great competition, the Cardinals turned-in several solid performances.
Diamond Taylor posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 400 meter dash, crossing the line with a time of 57.16. Teammate Emily Short followed that up with another provisional mark, placing second in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:42.13.
Emerald Joiner turned-in a third place finish in the meet, adding another provisional mark for the Cards by tossing a length of 13.58 meters in the shot put.
Travis Toye and Andrew Middleton placed 19th and 21st in the 800 meter run with times of 1:54.12 and 1:54.21, respectively.
In the 5,000 meter run, Joey Burelle ran to a time of 14:53.13, placing him 21st in the event.
Freshman Brady Watson placed 6th in the triple jump as well, leaping to a height of 13.09 meters.
The teams take to the track again tomorrow at the Kelly Family Sports Center on the campus of GVSU, beginning at 11:00 am
