NEW ORLEANS, La. - Saginaw Valley State University track and field team had four athletes, one male and three female, earn Division II All-Region awards for the 2012 outdoor season. The athletes that earned All-Region honors were chosen by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) and were based on their performances at the Outdoor Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships.
The lone male athlete garnering All-Region honors was sophomore high jumper Frank Sanders(Detroit, Mich./Sterling Heights HS) who placed fifth in the high jump competition clearing a NCAA DII Provisional qualifying mark of 2.06 meters at the Outdoor GLIAC Championships.
The women had three athletes, Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS), Diamond Taylor (Southfield, Mich./Southfield HS) and Megan Pittoors (Macomb, Mich./Dakota HS), garner All-Region honors. Senior Alycia Wright was the only Cardinal athlete to earn All-Region honors in two different events, the 800-meter and 1,500-meter run. Wright earned these honors by placing third in the 800-meter and second in the 1,500-meter run at the Outdoor GLIAC Championships clocking in at NCAA DII Provisional qualifying times of 2:10.95 and 4:30.43, respectively. Sophomore Diamond Taylor earned her All-Region honors in the 400-meter run by placing third in the 400-meter run at the Outdoor GLIAC Championships coming in at a NCAA DII Provisional qualifying time of 55.68. Senior Megan Pittoors garnered her All-Region honors by placing fourth in the 10,000-meter run at the Outdoor GLIAC Championships crossing the line at 37:21.97.
