Bott Records Provisional Qualifying Mark at CSLA Twilight Open

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's track and field team competed yesterday (4/19)in the CSLA Twilight Open.

The Cardinals were led by senior Brian Bott (Buckley, Mich./Kingsley HS) who competed in the hammer throw and earned a NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying mark of 58.62 meters, good for a first place finish and 16th in the nation.  Also earning a first place finish was teammate Jon Wetters (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) who competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and clocked in at 9:30.87, just 11 seconds shy of a NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying time.  Earning two second place finishes in the high jump and long jump was sophomore Frank Sanders (Detroit, Mich./Sterling Heights HS) who recorded marks of 2.02 and 6.61 meters, respectively.  Placing fourth in the 5,000-meter run was Joseph Burelle (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson HS) who clocked in at 15:05.60 while teammate David Foster (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron HS) placed seventh in the 400-meter run and timed in at 49.19, just 1.20 seconds shy of a NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying time.  The meet was rounded out by the 4x400-meter relay team that came in with a final time of 3:21.84 and consisted of Foster, Lee Chiatalas (Fenton, Mich./Linden HS), Raetron Bryant (Burton, Mich./Atherton HS) and Drew Meylan (Bay City, Mich./Bay City Western HS).

The Cardinals will be back in action again when they compete in the 54th Annual Mt. SAC Relays.
