Men’s Soccer Takes Loss Against Purdue Northwest

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team started their final weekend of the regular season in Indiana and came up short against the Pride of Purdue Northwest with a final score of 2-0.

The team mustered ten shot attempts with Elliot Nottoli, Alex Demorow, and Jonathan Monney all taking two each. Nottoli led with shots on goal with both of his finding the target for two of the Cardinal five. Jack Simms played all 90 minutes in net stopping four of the six shots he faced.

The Pride got on the board first in the 26th minute with Adam Morris breaking it open. PNW doubled that advantage six minutes later when Hugo Lorenzo scored his GLIAC leading 12th goal of the season.

The Cardinals were outshot 5-3 in the first half but took it to the Pride in the second outshooting them 7-4 to edge them out 10-9 overall. The game became very physical as the two teams combined for 35 fouls, 15 on SVSU and 20 on PNW.

With the loss, SVSU will finish the regular season in fifth place in the GLIAC. They will wrap up the regular season on Sunday, October 22 when they head to Parkside with kickoff at 3:30 PM. The program waits to see who finishes in fourth between Davenport and St. Cloud State to see where their GLIAC Quarterfinal game will be hosted the following weekend.
