Jonathan Monney Scores in the First To Give Cardinals Win Over Wildcats

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Jonathan Monney scored his first game-winning-goal of the season to give the Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team the 1-0 win over Northern Michigan in Marquette on Sunday afternoon.

Monney was the main shot taker for SVSU as he led the way with three shots, two on goal, in the winning effort. Elliot Nottoli and Jayden Cameron each had two shots while Shiekh Manneh, Chidie Nnolim, and Anthony Waller recorded one shot. Nnolim, Manneh, and Cameron recorded a shot on goal. Jack Simms made all three saves he needed to in order to preserve the win.

Yeabsira Vlasma earned the assist on Monney's goal that took place at the 39:45 mark of the first half and put the Cardinals up in what ended up being the final score of 1-0. The Wildcats led in shots through one half, 5-3, but couldn't capitalize on the one shot that hit its target.

The second half was all SVSU as the team led 7-2 in shots and forced the NMU keeper to make three saves to keep their team in the game. Both of Northern Michigan's shots in the second were on goal, but Simms handled them to keep the home team scoreless for the full 90 minutes.

The Cardinals return to University Center for a non-conference home matchup against Gannon on Friday, September 22 at noon.
