SVSU settles for 1-1 tie with Upper Iowa

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team played Upper Iowa University to a 1-1 tie in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Braddock Field on Sunday.  With the tie, SVSU's record moves 8-4-3 overall and 5-3-3 in the GLIAC.

The Peacocks struck first in the 36th minute. Italo Martins Soares sent a cross from the right side into the box, where Frider Blunck was able to put it home and make it 1-0 Upper Iowa heading into the halftime break.

The Cardinals answered in the 68th minute. Robbie Bruce sent a cross off the foot of Shiekh Manneh. Manneh was able to send it to Alex Gloshen and the senior tied the game for SVSU. Both teams had chances throughout the remainder of the game, but were unable to convert.

Mason Maziasz got the start in goal for SVSU and made seven saves. Callum Harley came in for the Cardinals and played the final seven minutes in the second overtime period. 

The Peacocks outshot the Cardinals 18-15. 

SVSU will host Davenport University at 1:00 p.m. Friday from Braddock Field.
