Four Cardinals named to United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Teams

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Saginaw Valley State University Men's Soccer had four student-athletes who were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Team for their performance during the 2019 season. Senior midfielder Connor Rutz was named to the All-Midwest Region First Team while senior defender Wladimir Babaew, junior midfielder Robbie Bruce and junior forward Alex Gloshen were all selected to the All-Midwest Region Third Team. 

Rutz, the 2019 GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year, garners his second all-region honor for 2019 after being selected to the D2CCA All-Midwest Region First Team a couple of weeks ago. He led the GLIAC in goals with nine in the regular season and had three game-winning goals for SVSU. He finished second in the league with 23 points, just one point behind the regular season leaders. He led the Cardinals in shots (47) and shots on-goal (23) and had a shot on-goal percentage of .489. He led the team with five regular season assists as well. In postseason play, Rutz added a goal and an assist in two GLIAC Tournament matches, upping his 2019 total to 10 goals and six assists.

Babaew, a 2019 All-GLIAC Second Team selection at the defender position, played in an started in 17 matches for the Cardinals. He helped hold nine teams scoreless this year while holding down the back line. 

Bruce was a 2019 All-GLIAC Honorable Mention selection and scored two goals with three assists while playing and starting all 20 matches for Saginaw Valley. He had one game-winner and had a .471 shot on-goal percentage. 

Gloshen was an All-GLIAC Second Team honoree this year as well, scoring six goals and adding five assists in his 17 matches. He had three game-winning goals for SVSU.
