Connor Rutz earns D2CCA All-Midwest Region Honors

ASHLAND, Ohio -- Saginaw Valley State University senior midfielder Connor Rutz, who was recently selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Offensive Player of the Year, has been selected to the 2019 D2CCA All-Midwest Region First Team.

Rutz, who was named a D2CCA All-Midwest Region Second Team honoree in 2017 along with United Soccer Coaches First Team honors, put together a stellar season to round-out his Cardinal career.

Connor led the GLIAC in goals with nine in the regular season and had three game-winning goals for SVSU. He finished second in the league with 23 points, just one point behind the regular season leaders. He led the Cardinals in shots (47) and shots on-goal (23) and had a shot on-goal percentage of .489. He led the team with five regular season assists as well. In postseason play, Rutz added a goal and an assist in two GLIAC Tournament matches, upping his 2019 total to 10 goals and six assists.

Saginaw Valley finished the 2019 campaign with a 13-6-1 overall record, finishing No. 2 in the GLIAC and runner-up in the GLIAC Tournament.
