Four Cardinals Garner All-GLIAC Men's Soccer Honors

GLIAC -- The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team had four athletes garner All-GLIAC honors after postseason balloting conducted by the league's head coaches in conjunction with the annual league tournament. 

Senior Connor Rutz was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and earned All-GLIAC first team honors at the midfield position for the 2019 season. Rutz is the current GLIAC leader in goals with nine and has had three game winning goals this season. He was also second in the GLIAC for points scored with 23, just one point behind the GLIAC leaders. Rutz leads the Cardinals in shots (47) and shots on goal (23) and has a shot on goal percentage of .489. He also leads the team in assists with five on the season.

Junior forward Alex Gloshen earned All-GLIAC second team honors for the Cardinals. Gloshen has played and started in 15 games for the Cardinals in the 2019 season. He has scored six goals this and recorded four assists helping the Cardinals to a 12-5-1 overall record. 

Senior Wladimir Babaew was named to the All-GLIAC second team at the defender spot for Saginaw Valley. Babaew played and started 15 games for SVSU and helped hold nine teams scoreless in the 2019 season. 

Earning All-GLIAC honorable mentions for the Cardinals was junior midfielder Robbie Bruce who scored two goals and had three assists for SVSU. Bruce also contributed a game winning goal and had a shot on goal percentage of .438 for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals posted a 12-5-1 overall record in the 2019 regular season and a 10-4 GLIAC mark. SVSU earned the No. 2 seed in the GLIAC Tournament and a bye to the semifinals where they face Davenport. The match is set for 2:00 p.m. at Kenosha, Wisconsin.
