Saginaw Valley Defeats Purdue Northwest 3-2

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team overcame an early deficit to defeat the Pride of Purdue Northwest, 3-2. The Cardinals got two goals from Alex Gloshen and a pair of assists from Robbie Bruce to help pace the victory for the Cardinals.

The Pride drew first blood at the 17-minute mark on an unassisted goal by Jules Cailliau to give Purdue Northwest a 1-0 edge.

Saginaw Valley would respond four minutes later with a goal from Connor Rutz on a feed from Robbie Bruce to knot the score at 1-1. This score held true through the remainder of the first half. 

The Cardinals led the offensive battle in the first half with seven shots to the Pride's four.

SVSU would open the second half with a goal in the 58th-minute from junior Alex Gloshen, his first of the season, with the assist going to Robbie Bruce for his second of the match. Gloshen would score again in the 83rd-minute on a pass from Kairo Coore to put the Cardinals up, 3-1.

The Pride would not go down without a fight and put the final goal of the match in at the 84th-minute on an unassisted goal from Daniel Freedman bringing the score to 3-2. This score would hold true through the remainder of the match.

Both teams had 11 shots in the second half with the advantage going to SVSU for the match with 18.

Mason Maziasz picked up the win in the net for the Cardinals and improves his record to 5-1-1. Maziasz faced seven shots on goal, saving five of them.
