Cardinals to face Ashland in NCAA Division II Tournament's First Round

EVANSVILLE, Indiana -- The Saginaw Valley State University Men's Soccer team has qualified for the NCAA Division II postseason for the fifth straight year and will face a familiar opponent in Thursday's opening round. 

The Cardinals secured the No. 3 seed in the Midwest Region and will square-off against No. 6 Ashland University. The match will take place on Thursday (Nov. 8) at 8:00 p.m. eastern time on the campus of the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana. The winner will advance to face host and No. 2 regional seed Souther Indiana on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. eastern time.

SVSU is ranked 22nd in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll and will be facing the Eagles of Ashland for the third time this season. The Cards have gone 1-0-1 in the other two, defeating AU 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 3 at SVSU and tying 2-2 on Oct. 26 at Ashland to round-out the 2018 regular season. 

Saginaw Valley is making its fifth straight appearance in the annual NCAA Division II postseason tournament and its sixth in the past seven years. The Cards earned an at-large bid this year while the Eagles sealed their bid after claiming the 2018 GLIAC Tournament title.
