UNIVERSITY CENTER -- After claiming the program's fourth GLIAC Championship and second in the last three years, the Saginaw Valley State University Men's Soccer team will host this weekend's GLIAC Tournament.

The Cardinals received a bye in the GLIAC Quarterfinals as one of the top-two seeds and will open play Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. against #4 Northwood University at Braddock Field. In the two meetings against the Timberwolves this season, the Cardinals defeated NU 2-0 on Sep. 28 at Braddock Field before the teams drew 1-1 on Oct. 14 in Midland.

The winner of that match will advance to Sunday's championship match at noon and face the winner of #2 Parkside vs #6 Ashland in the other semifinal contest. The matchup between the Rangers and Eagles is set to follow the SVSU-Northwood match and have a first kick of 2:00 p.m.

SVSU will be looking for its second GLIAC Tournament championship, as the only tournament title was when the Cardinals won the 2012 event after winning their second straight league regular season championship that year. Saginaw Valley is now ranked No. 11 nationally in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Coaches Poll and now sits atop the Midwest Regional rankings in the final week prior to the NCAA Division II Playoffs.

Up for grabs this weekend is the GLIAC's automatic NCAA Division II tournament bid for the winner. Last year SVSU received the GLIAC automatic qualifier despite a tournament runner-up finish, as Davenport was ineligible for NCAA postseason play during their transition process.
