UNIVERSITY CENTER — The Saginaw Valley State University Men's Soccer squad continued on their home stretch against Northern Michigan Sunday (Sept. 30) afternoon. The Cardinals and Wildcats played to a 0-0 tie, as neither team was able to find the back of the net after two overtimes played.
Saginaw Valley had some offense rolling in the opening half, getting off 10 shots while holding the Wilcats to only a pair on goal. All six shots on goal for the Cardinals were stopped by NMU goalkeeper, Valentin Kliebe.
The second frame saw NMU pile in only a solo shot, while the Cardinals racked up nine. The game remained scoreless and headed to overtime.
SVSU held control of the ball for majority of the first overtime, putting five shots up, but could only find the goal once, which was saved once again by Kliebe.
The second OT gave NMU once chance for a SOG, but Lukas Betz would earn the save, leaving both teams scorless after 110 minutes of play.

- SVSU had a 27-7 shot edge, putting 11 on the net compared to four for the Wildcats.
- The Cardinals registered their fifth shutout of the season in the tie after another stellar defensive performance.
- Azaad Liadi had seven shots with three on goal while Michael Shaikly, had six shots with three on goal, as well.
- Lukas Betz (T, 4-1-2) worked all 110 minutes between the posts for SVSU.

"If there is anything we can learn from this draw is the fact that we need to be way more ruthless in front of goal and also put teams away early, especially when we completely dominate them. At times our soccer was superb, and I feel we are getting even better every game. When our lads can start to put chances away earlier we will win these types of games. There are no easy games in this league, as it is one of the toughest conferences in the country and we just need to play the way we are - battle harder and take our chances."
