CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The SVSU Men's Soccer team competed in the opening round of the 2017 NCAA Division II Tournament on Friday (Nov. 10), facing the Davis & Elkins Senators at Schoenbaum Stadium. After the Senators took a 1-0 lead into the half, the Cardinals worked back and tied the game to force overtime. After two scoreless extra sessions, Davis & Elkins posted a 2-0 advantage in the penalty kicks, advancing to the second round.

The Senators got a header goal off a corner kick in the 21st minute of action, sneaking one in the far right side of the goal to take the 1-0 lead.

The match remained with that score as the teams entered the halftime break, with the Cardinals holding a slight 5-4 edge in total shots despite being behind by the single score.

Saginaw Valley got on the board to knot the score at 1-1 when Chris Jacovou found the back of the net at the 54' marker, using a feed from Michael Shaikly to swing the momentum in SV's favor.

That sent the contest to the first overtime session tied at 1-1.
