#13 Saginaw Valley Posts 1-0 Victory over Davenport

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. — 
The Saginaw Valley State Men's Soccer team collected their seventh victory against Davenport Sunday afternoon (Oct. 1) to extend their winning streak to three in conference play. With the only goal in the contest going to the Cardinals in the first ten minutes of play, SVSU took the victory 1-0 over the Panthers.

The single goal of the contest headed to net from Saginaw Valley's Connor Rutz in the 8' of play. Oakley Hanger crossed the ball from the right side to Rutz who flicked it in the top left corner of the net to take the 1-0 lead. 

With Saginaw Valley's Rutz goal being the solo score of opening half, the Panthers notched in five shots compared to the Cardinals four. One of two shots on net for the Cardinals was Rutz's fifth goal of the season. 

The final half featured an aggressive Davenport offense, posting eight shots to Saginaw Valley's two. 

The Cardinal and Panther defenses stayed strong in the second half. Neither teams allowed a goal for the rest of the 45 minutes, giving Saginaw Valley their third conference win over the Davenport Panthers.

Connor Keane posted four saves for the Cardinals. 
Connor Rutz notched in his third game-winning goal and two shots. 
• Azaad Liadi added three shots with one on goal.

The Cardinals will head on the road for a mid-week game against GLIAC member Northwood University on Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m. The Timberwolves (6-2-2, 2-2-1 GLIAC) are coming off of a 1-0 win over Tiffin on Sunday (Oct. 1).
