ASHLAND, Ohio - The SVSU men's soccer team bounced-back from a Friday defeat at Ohio Dominican with a 1-0 shutout at Ashland University on Sunday (Oct. 16) afternoon in GLIAC action. 

The Cardinals got a second half score from Tobee Oyeleye at the 63' mark for the only goal of the match and held the Eagles scoreless throughout for the shutout victory.

The score was 0-0 for the opening half, as SVSU posted five shots and Ashland had three in the first period. 

It wasn't until 18 minutes into the second when Oyeleye found the back of the net on a long shot, using a pass from Brian Sockow for the 1-0 lead. 

That would be the game's only tally, as Cardinal goalkeeper Connor Keane improved to 11-3-0 on the season after saving both shots he faced on goal.

• Oyeleye's goal marked his third of the season. He had three shots, with two on goal.
• Sockow's assist is the first of his career at SVSU. 
• Keane now has six shutouts this year for the Cardinals. 
• Saginaw Valley had 10 shots in the match while the Eagles posted seven. 
• The Cards put half of their shots (5) on goal while Ashland had just a pair.
• The win marks the second shutout over Ashland this year, as they defeated the Eagles by a 6-0 count earlier on September 18.

"Today was a huge test of character and resilience as a team. To bounce back so quickly after such a tough loss on Friday was just what we all needed. I will credit Ashland and their coach, Oliver Swanson, who tactically set up to defend and counter. It took a lot of hard work and a special moment for us to win the game. I was really impressed with the courage and commitment a lot of the men showed today, especially some players who came in off the bench to get their first minutes of the season following a slew of injuries and suspensions. We need to get back and recover for yet another run of tough games, beginning Friday at home against Lake Erie."

The Cardinals return to the field on Friday (Oct. 21) with a 2:30 p.m. home match against the Lake Erie Storm at Braddock Field. The Cardinals defeated the Storm 2-1 in overtime on September 23 in Painesville.
