UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The SVSU men's soccer team notched its seventh straight victory on Sunday (Oct. 9), as the Cardinals posted a 1-0 shutout home victory over the Northwood University Timberwolves in GLIAC action.

The teams played to a very evenly-matched opening period, with the Cardinals and Timberwolves each posting eight shots and two shots on goal. Neither team would convert, however, and the score would be deadlocked at 0-0 heading into the half.

Saginaw Valley struck early in the second period, as Matt Wilson scored his ninth goal of the season 15 seconds in after Tobee Oyeleye found him for the score to make it 1-0. 

That would prove to be all the home squad needed, as the Cardinal defense turned up the heat and kept the clean sheet in tact. SVSU held Northwood to just a single shot over the final 45 minutes and got 12 shots off offensively.

The 1-0 score would hold true and be the final.

• SVSU posted a 20-9 advantage in shots in the contest, putting nine shots on net compared to Northwood's three. 
• Wilson's goal marks his ninth of the 2016 season, which ranks second in the GLIAC.
• Oyeleye registered his first assist of the fall as well.
• Connor Keane upped his record to 9-2-0 overall on the season and registered his fourth career shutout.
• The Cardinals are tied atop the league with 27 goals scored and SV's 7-2 league record is just behind's Tiffin's 8-2 mark in regards to conference winning percentage.
• Andrew Dalou had a match-high five shots, putting three of those on the net.
• The Cards have now won seven in a row, matching the program record shared by last year's team and the 2012 national runner-up squad.

The Cardinals are at Braddock Field once again on Wednesday (Oct. 12), as SVSU hosts the University of Findlay Oilers in a GLIAC tilt at 3:30 p.m. The teams met earlier this season, with the Oilers coming out ahead by a 3-2 score in overtime in Ohio.
