UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The 21st-ranked Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team upped its 2016 record to 2-0-0 overall after posting a 3-1 non-conference regional victory over the St. Joseph's College Pumas on Sunday (Sep. 4) afternoon at Braddock Field.
The Cardinals fell behind early after a goal by the Pumas' Peter Munro at the 14' minute mark of the contest.
SV responded at the 36' point when Matt Wilson put a ball towards the front of the net and Jordan Kalk tapped it across the line for the home team's first goal and the 1-1 tie.
Just five minutes later at the 41' point, Tobee Oyeleye got on the board with a goal off a nice feed from Max Winterton to extend the lead to 2-1. That's where the lead would remain heading into the halftime break.
Shortly into the second, Roderic Green put a shot towards the goal that missed just left, but Wilson was there to knock it past the Puma goalkeeper for his first goal of the season, making the score 3-1.
That's what proved to be the final, as Saginaw Valley secured the victory after keeping its opponents off the scoresheet for the final 75:28 of play.

- Kalk's goal was his second of the season, as his 39 career goals now tie him with Tyler Channell atop the Cardinal record books for career goals.
- Oyeleye and Wilson each notched their first goals of the season as well in the contest, with Oyeleye's proving to be the game-winner.

- Green's helper was also his first for SVSU.
