NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Coming off a 6-0 victory this past Sunday at Ohio Dominican, the SVSU men's soccer team claimed its second straight victory in Ohio after posting a 5-1 decision over the Walsh University Cavaliers on Friday night.

The Cardinals scored a pair of goals in the first half, with Tyler Channell making it 1-0 at the 20:30 mark before Jordan Kalk extended the lead out to 2-0 with a score at the 29:54 marker.

That lead held true into halftime and until just under two minutes into the second half when Kalk added another goal on an Aleksandar Isaevski feed to make the score 3-0. Andrew Dalou scored his third goal of the season at the 52:41 mark to push the lead to 4-0. Troy Watson had the helper on that goal. Kalk then notched his third goal of the contest at the 68:22 marker, making the lead 5-0.

SVSU allowed a single goal at the tail end of the match when Walsh's Ryan Baker scored with just 25 seconds left to make the score 5-1, which is what the final would remain.

• Kalk's three goals gives him his second hat trick of the season, both coming against the Cavaliers. He now has 12 goals on the season.
• Channell's goal gives him 12 scores as well, tying him with Kalk for the team and GLIAC lead.
• Channell (34) and Kalk (26) sit atop the league in points for the 2015 season.
• Alexandre Bouillennec (9-1-0) got the victory, narrowly missing out on his third shutout of the season.
• Saginaw Valley had 16 shots in the contest, seven of those being put on goal. The Cardinals held the Cavaliers to just four shots, all which came in the second period.

"I was extremely pleased with the team performance and result tonight. We faced a well-organized Walsh team that competed hard for 90 minutes. Their game plan of playing a 5-4-1 formation made it difficult for us to break down. Eventually, we managed to do that and scored some very good goals in the process. More importantly, we defended well and feel a little disappointed not to finish with a shutout. Every game brings a new challenge and I am very impressed with our players' ability to overcome the challenges and continue to improve. Now we switch our focus to Malone on Sunday, who will again give us a tough game."

Saginaw Valley continues play in Canton, facing off against Malone University on Sunday (Oct. 11) in a 12:30 p.m. contest. The Cardinals defeated the Pioneers by a score of 4-0 in the earlier meeting this season.
