UNIVERSITY CENTER - The sixth-ranked Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team opened the home portion of its 2015 season on Sunday afternoon, hosting the Marygrove College Mustangs in a non-conference tilt at SVSU's Braddock Field. After grabbing a 1-0 lead early in the second half, the Cardinals couldn't overcome two Mustang goals and fell by a score of 2-1.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes of action, as the match entered the halftime break deadlocked 0-0. Saginaw Valley had six shots compared to five for Marygrove. The Mustangs put two of those on goal while the Cards had one shot on goal in the first half. SVSU had seven corner kicks in the first frame compared to none for Marygrove.

SVSU got on the board and made the score 1-0 at the 50:57 marker when Aleksandar Isaevski kicked one in front of the net and found Tyler Channell, who headed the ball past the Marygrove goalkeeper for his second goal of the season. It marked Isaevski's second helper of the season.

The Mustangs would respond with a score of their own at the 58:42 mark when Abdoulie Jallow found the back of the net to knot the match at 1-1. Jallow would add another goal at the 71:05 marker on a penalty kick to give the visitors the 2-1 lead.

The Cardinals had a couple of opportunities and were playing a man down after the 55' mark due to a red card. Those chances did not pan-out, however, and the Mustangs (2-4-0) would close out for the 2-1 victory.

Joshua Howell (0-1-0) took the loss in net for SVSU, allowing two goals of the four on goal he faced in his 45 minutes.

Saginaw Valley (3-1-0) plays again at home on Friday (Sep. 18) against a GLIAC opponent in the Malone University Pioneers. The men play after the women with a start time of 3:30 p.m. at Braddock Field.
