MIDLAND - In a re-match of the 2014 NCAA Division II Playoffs and 2014 GLIAC Championship match, the Saginaw Valley State University and Northwood University men's soccer programs met again on Friday afternoon in a match-up of national top-25 teams. In what is always a hard-fought match, the sixth-ranked Cardinals came out on top with a 2-1 road victory over the 16th-ranked Timberwolves.

SVSU scored early in the contest for a 1-0 lead as Matt Wilson hit a deep shot from 40 yards out to beat the Northwood keeper. It was Wilson's second score of the season and Andrew Dalou had the assist on the play just 2:09 into the match.

That one goal lead would carry into the halftime break for the Cards. The T-Wolves held a 6-3 advantage in shots for the opening 45 minutes.

The game's next score wouldn't come until the 75:38 marker, when Tyler Channell used a Wilson feed to knock one past the goalkeeper for the 2-0 lead.

Northwood answered at the 79:44 point with a goal by Keaton Levock that cut the deficit to 2-1.

That's what the final score would remain, as the SV defense held strong and closed out for the one goal victory.

Alexandre Bouillennec (3-0-0) got the win in goal for the Cardinals, recording four saves on five shots on goal, facing 18 shots total from the Timberwolves.

Jordan Kalk had a team-high three shots and two shots on goal.

Saginaw Valley returns to the field with its 2015 home opener on Sunday (Sep. 13) against the Marygrove College Mustangs. The match is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. at SVSU's Braddock Field.
