ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The 18th-ranked Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team opened the 2015 season with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Lewis University Flyers on Friday night.

The Cardinals got two goals from Jordan Kalk, three assists from Tyler Channell and a goal for Matt Wilson to account for the three scores.

Just 9:05 into the match, Channell found Wilson for the first goal of the game as he tucked it under the top left corner of the goal to make the score 1-0. At the 24:27 marker, Channell used a give and go with Kalk to increase the lead to 2-0, as Kalk found th back of net for the Cards. 

That score would hold true until the 67:44 mark in the second period, as Kalk scored again after knocking in a rebound off a Channell shot. That made the score 3-0, which was what it would remain.

It preserved the shutout for goalkeeper Alexandre Bouillennec (1-0), who saved all three shots on goal he faced against the Flyers. 

The Cards out-shot Lewis by a 15-9 count in the contest. Wilson recorded six shots, three on goal for SV with his first goal in a Cardinal uniform. Kalk put three of his four shots on goal, notching a pair of scores. Channell assisted on all three of the SV goals on the night.

Saginaw Valley (1-0) continues on the road with a match Sunday at Wisconsin-Parkside at 3:30 p.m. eastern time.
