Men's Soccer Team Announces Spring Schedule

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team recently played in an exhibition match at Oakland University (Mar. 15), tying the Golden Grizzlies 2-2.  SVSU got goals from Tyler Channell and Alex Isaevski.

"It was a great match that allowed us to play a competitive opponent for the first time since November and our guys did an outstanding job as we tied the game 2-2 away from home," stated Head Coach Cale Wassermann.

The Cardinals have four remaining exhibition dates this spring, which are listed below with more information:

March 29th - SVSU vs Western Michigan University - Game played at East Kentwood High School, Pat Patterson Field
The David Warsen Memorial Classic is at Pat Patterson Stadium, Saturday March 29th 8:00pm kick off.  The game will be played as part of the Crew Spring Classic, a youth soccer tournament hosting 145 teams from across the region.

David Warsen is a former Navy Seal who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2012.  The David Warsen Memorial Foundation, a non-profit organization, will be supporting local soccer players in the community as well as supporting the Navy SEAL Foundation.

From WMU website:  As David's family, our mission is to carry on and honor David's passion for life and the game of soccer.  We want to make sure that children in our community have the opportunity to play soccer if they so choose, but cannot afford the equipment to do so.  Seeing children play and love soccer the way David did would bring a smile to his face.  We also want to help the Navy SEAL Foundation to support our fellow SEAL families in times of need.  We know first hand how important this foundation is and David would be delighted to know that we are helping the families of his SEAL brothers.  David will never be forgotten in our hearts or in our memories.  He is our guiding light to help love and support one another.  That is why we have formed the David Warsen Memorial Foundation, a non-profit organization.

David also played soccer for John Conlon at Kentwood HS which is where the game will be played (on the Pat Patterson field he used to play on).  At the game, entry is free but they will be accepting kind donations and selling merchandise.  All proceeds will go to the David Warsen Memorial Foundation.

The weather has been tough this winter but the spring is turning around just in time for our guys to get out and compete."
