KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Three Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer student-athletes have been named to the 2013 National Soccer Coaches' Athletic Association (NSCAA) Men's Soccer All-North/Central Region Team.
The award, which includes Division II and III institutions in the region, requires at least a 3.30 GPA and the student-athlete to be a heavy contributor to their respective team. The award also considers postseason awards such as all-conference honors when selecting the teams.
Junior Michael Lamb was named to the first team as a defenseman, as he maintains a 3.32 GPA as an Exercise Science major. Lamb scored four goals in 2013 and was the 2013 GLIAC "Defensive Player of the Year." He has been named to the NSCAA All-Midwest Region First Team as well as the Daktronics, Inc. All-Midwest Region First Team.
Fellow juniors Craig Neal and Zach Vasold were named to the second team after their 2013 season, Neal as a defender and Vasold as a midfielder.
Neal led the GLIAC with 10 assists, netting three goals as well to finish with 16 points. He carries a 3.85 GPA as a Criminal Justice major and was named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention in 2013.
Vasold has a 3.84 GPA in SVSU's Nursing program. He was named Second Team All-GLIAC in 2013 and had a game-winning goal for the Cardinals.
"This is the highest award you can receive as a student-athlete," said SVSU Head Coach Cale Wassermann. "The award honors the COMPLETE student-athlete and having three of our players on this team out of the 22 total makes me very proud!"
