Oilers Defeat SVSU Men, 2-1

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team traveled to the University of Findlay to take-on the Oilers on the first leg of its weekend trip through Ohio.  The Cardinals fell in the contest by a score of 2-1.

The first 45 minutes of play came and went with both teams posting a clean sheet and entering halftime tied, 0-0.  Saginaw Valley had nine first half shots compared to just two for the Oilers.

Just 2:19 into the second period, Findlay's Cullen Barron snuck one in the top of the net to give his team a 1-0 lead.

That score would hold until the 70:18 marker, when the Oilers extended their lead to 2-0 on a Mark Sleasman goal.

SVSU senior Mitch Reinhart cut that lead in half, notching his second goal of the season for the Cards just over six minutes later to make the score 2-1.  Junior forward Sadik Balarabe assisted on the goal, his second of 2013 as well.

Neither of the Cardinals' three shots the rest of the way found the back of the goal and the Oilers closed-out with the one-goal victory.

Saginaw held a 17-9 advantage in shots for the match.

With the loss, SVSU falls to 8-3-3 overall on the season and 7-2-2 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.  The Oilers improve to 5-8-1 and 3-8 in the GLIAC after the win.

The Cards are back in action Sunday (Oct. 27), as they face Ohio Dominican in a 1:00 pm match in Columbus, Ohio.  Live stats for the match will be available through a link on the men's soccer schedule.
