Men's Soccer Ties Lake Erie, 0-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team tied Lake Erie College Friday (Oct. 18) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match.

The first half did not have many quality scoring opportunities for either team.  Saginaw Valley had five shots in the first half, while Cardinal goalie Aaron Gerwig faced zero Lake Erie shots.  Both teams had one corner kick in the opening frame.

The second half saw much more action from both teams. SVSU registered 10 shots and Lake Erie added seven shots of their own.  Both goalies were able to save the six shots they faced on goal in the second 45 minutes.

The Cardinals had a few opportunities in the overtime periods, but could not capitalize despite owning the statistical categories.  The home team had seven shots and five corner kicks in the twenty minutes of extra time.

The 0-0 stalemate would stand after 110:00 total minutes of play.

SVSU's record is now 8-2-3 overall and 7-1-2 in the conference while the tie brings Lake Erie's record on the season to 5-5-2 and 4-5-1 in the GLIAC.

Saginaw Valley is back in action on Friday (Oct. 25) as it travels to Findlay to take on the Oilers. Kickoff is set for 4 pm.
