Aaron Gerwig Named GLIAC Men's Soccer Defensive "Athlete of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. -  Aaron Gerwig (Freiburg, Germany), a freshman on the SVSU men's soccer team, has been named the GLIAC Men's Soccer Defensive "Athlete of the Week" for his play over the past weekend in the Cardinals' victories over Malone and Walsh.

This is the second time Gerwig has received the award this season.

Saginaw Valley State University freshman goal keeper Aaron Gerwig posted a pair of shutouts last week, helping the Cardinals remain in first place in the GLIAC standings. Gerwig recorded 2 saves in SVSU's 2-0 win over Malone University on Friday (Oct. 11). He then stopped the only shot on goal against him in the Cardinals' 4-0 over Walsh University on Sunday (Oct. 13).

The two shutouts give Gerwig four solo shutouts and three combined shutouts, which lead the GLIAC with 7 overall. Gerwig also currently leads all conference goalkeepers statistically in save percentage (.870), goals against (6) and goals-against average (0.59).

The Cardinals re-entered the NSCAA Men's Soccer Division II Coaches' Poll this week as well, sitting at #16 in the poll.
