Saginaw Valley Defeats Malone, 2-0

Saginaw Valley Defeats Malone, 2-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team defeated Malone, 2-0 Friday (Oct. 11) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match.

The Cardinals looked to rebound against the Pioneers following a tough 1-1 tie against Tiffin last weekend when the game was called due to lightning.

Jordan Kalk started the scoring with a goal off of a strong shot from about 18 yards out that sailed in to the side netting in the 20th minute.  Kalk leads the GLIAC in goals (7) and points (14).  The 1-0 score would be the margin that would take the squads in to halftime.

Tyler Channell added his name to the scoresheet at the 84:59 mark after he stole the ball away from the Malone keeper and put the ball into an open net.  The goal capped the scoring for the day as well as gave SVSU the 2-0 win.

SVSU held the advantage in the shot category by an overwhelming tally of 24-7 as well as edged Malone in corner kicks, 11-5.

Saginaw Valley improves to 7-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the GLIAC after the victory while Malone falls to 2-8 on the season and 1-7 in the conference.

The Cardinals are back in action Sunday (Oct 13) as they take on Walsh University. Kickoff is set for 3:30 pm.
