Saginaw Valley Men Drop First GLIAC contest, 2-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team suffered its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) loss of the 2013, falling 2-1 at home to Ohio Dominican University.

The scoring began in the 23rd minute with an Ohio Dominican goal. Aaron Gerwig (Freiburg, Germany) made a save on the original shot before the ball squirted back out into the middle and the Panthers converted.

That would be the only goal of the half, as Ohio Dominican led 1-0 after the first 45 minutes.

SVSU would respond early in the second half, equalizing the score 1-1 off of a Michael Lamb (Sunderland, England/Sandhill View School) header.  Craig Neal (Bay City, Mich./Bay City Western HS) delieverd a great ball off of a corner kick on to Lamb's head and in the back of the net.

The Panthers added a late goal, scoring with less than four minutes to play, giving them a 2-1 lead.

Saginaw Valley would turn on the pressure, but couldn't convert on any scoring opportunities the rest of the way.

The Cardinals fall to 6-2-1 overall and 5-1 in the GLIAC, while Ohio Dominican improves to 4-2-1 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Saginaw Valley will be back in action Friday (Oct. 4), when it travels to take on Tiffin University.
