Cardinals Take Down Findlay, 3-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team won its sixth consecutive game Friday (Sept. 27) as it took down the University of Findlay, 3-0.

The scoring began in the 23rd minute with a goal by Jordan Kalk (Richmond Hill, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary School).  The score came from about 25 yards out off an absolute strike from Kalk, giving SVSU a 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals would get a goal just two minutes later when Mitch Reinhart (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Canton HS) played a beautiful ball to Tyler Channell (Troy, Mich./Troy Athens HS), who skillfully put the ball past the Oiler goalkeeper.

The score would stand at 2-0 entering halftime.

Channell would add another goal just  30 seconds in to the second half off a feed from Craig Neal (Bay City, Mich./Western HS), sealing the win for Saginaw Valley.

"We had another great effort all around," stated SVSU Head Coach Cale Wassermann.  "We still have a lot to improve on, but we have managed to get quality results this week.  It took a special goal to break the deadlock from Jordan Kalk, but we knew once we got the first one, others would come, and Tyler Channell got two big ones for us."

"Findlay is a solid team that is playing with a lot of confidence, so we were happy to get the results before we end our week against ODU on Sunday in another pivotal GLIAC match."

SVSU improves to 6-1-1 and 5-0 in the conference, while Findlay drops to 2-4-1 overall and remains winless at 0-4 in the GLIAC.

Saginaw Valley is back in action on Sunday (Sept. 29) to take on Ohio Dominican. Match is set to begin at 2:30 pm.
