Soccer Finishes Home Weekend Sweep With 3-0 Victory Over Walsh

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team won its fourth consecutive game Sunday (Sept. 22) as it took down Walsh University, 3-0.

The game began with an early Saginaw Valley 1-0 lead thanks to a beautiful play that led to a Craig Neal (Bay City, Mich./Western HS) Goal. Zack Cooney (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) played a ball to Tyler Channell (Troy, Mich./Troy Athens HS), who allowed the ball to roll through his legs untouched, giving Neal an open look at goal.

Jordan Kalk (Richmond Hill, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary School) would add his fourth goal of the season at the 30:20 mark off a slotted pass by Vaughn Frederick (Garden City, Mich./Garden City HS).

The Cardinals would go in to halftime leading 2-0.

Sadik Balarabe (London, England/Jackson CC) would conclude the scoring with his fourh goal of the weekend midway through the second half. Balarabe pressured a Walsh defender to win the ball and score on a breakaway, giving SVSU a 3-0 lead.

The Cardinals improve to 4-1-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play while Walsh falls to 2-4 overall and a 2-2 record in the GLIAC.

Saginaw Valley outshot Walsh by a tally of 25-8 in the match.

"The two games this past weekend were top-shelf performances on both sides of the ball," said Head Coach Cale Wassermann.  "Nine goals for us and zero for our opponents is a testament to our team's focus this weekend."

SVSU is back in action Wednesday (Sept. 25), as it travels to take on rival Northwood University. The match is set to begin at 4:00 pm.

"This is a huge stretch for us with five games in nine days.  We got the first two out of the way so now it is about taking care of our bodies and preparing for Wednesday at Northwood.  I am very pleased with the team's mentality and the way they are tuned-in right now."
