Men's Soccer Stays Unbeaten In GLIAC, Blanks Malone 6-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team stayed perfect in league play after a 6-0 home victory over Malone University today (Sept. 20).

The Cardinals grabbed an early 1-0 lead after Zach Vasold (Freeland, Mich./Freeland HS) scored off a Conor Reaume (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) feed to notch the game's first goal at the 7:06 mark, his first goal of the season.

Neither team found the back of the net the rest of the half, as the game would remain at 1-0 entering halftime in favor of SVSU.

The Cardinals came out running in the second half, scoring four goals in less than 10 minutes.

Jordan Kalk (Richmond Hill, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary School) and Reaume each added their name to the scoresheet with goals at the 53:36 and 54:08 marks, respectively.  Tyler Channell (Troy, Mich./Athens HS) and Craig Neal (Bay City, Mich./Western HS) had helpers on those two goals.

Sadik Balarabe (London, England/Jackson CC) would then rattle-off three consecutive goals for the Cardinals, spanning from the 61:50 to the 74:52 marker.  Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Salem HS) and Mitch Posuniak (Canton, Mich./Canton HS) assisted on his first and third goals, respectively, to contribute to Balarabe's first-career hat-trick in an SVSU uniform.

Aaron Gerwig (Freiburg, Germany) stopped all six shots he faced on goal to get his third win of the season in net for the Cardinals.

That all-but sealed the contest for Saginaw Valley, as it closed-out for the 6-0 victory, moving the Cardinals to 3-1-1 overall and 2-0 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.  Malone falls to 1-4 overall and and 0-3 in GLIAC play following the defeat.

SVSU outshot Malone in the match, 28-15.

Saginaw Valley is back in action on Sunday (Sept. 22) as it takes-on Walsh Univeristy.  Kickoff is set for a 2:00 pm start.
