Cardinals Down Marygrove, 7-3

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team earned a 7-3 victory over the Marygrove College Mustangs in the team's home opener Sunday (Sept. 15).

Saginaw Valley fell behind to start the match when the Mustangs scored at the 5:10 mark to grab a 1-0 lead.

After conceding the first goal of the match, the Cardinals found the back of the net often.

SVSU netted five goals by five different players in the first. The scoring started off with a Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Salem) goal at the 12:42 mark, followed by a score from Michael Lamb (Sunderland, England/Sandhill View School) with a Morley Burns helper less than a minute later to put the Cardinals up 2-1.

Jordan Kalk (Richmond Hill, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary School), Conor Reaume (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) and Sadik Balarabe (London, England/Crown Woods Secondary School) would add goals to take the teams in to halftime with Saginaw Valley leading 5-1.

The second half began with a Craig Neal (Bay City, Mich./Bay City Western HS) goal at the 48:41 mark.

The Mustangs brought some tough play that led them to score two strange goals on junior goal keeper Tyler Yachcik (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS).

The scoring would finally conclude when Saginaw Valley was awarded a penalty kick for a hard tackle in the box. Morley Burns (Rochester, Mich./Adams HS) stepped up and beat the Marygrove goal keeper to add his name to the scoresheet.

Seven different Cardinals scored in the match.

The Cardinals are back in action again on Friday (Sept. 20) at home, as they take on the visiting Malone University Pioneers at 2:00 pm.
