KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Saginaw Valley State Univeristy head men's soccer coach, Cale Wassermann, was selected as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II Midwest Region Coach of the Year by the NSCAA.

Wassermann, in his third year at the helm, guided the Cardinals to their best finish in program history as National Runners-Up in just their second trip to the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament. In that time Wassermann has led the Cardinals to an impressive 39-14-10 record and back-to-back Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. He became just the fourth coach in GLIAC history to win back-to-back Coach of the Year honors. Seniors Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich/Forest Hills Eastern) and Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) also became the first two players in program history to be named All-Americans earlier this month.  Myers was named a Capital One Academic All-American as well.  

In 2012, Wassermann helped his alma mater to their second straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship and first ever GLIAC Tournament Championship as Saginaw Valley posted a program-best 18 wins and a 10-1-1 home record as well finishing the season ranked No. 2 in final NSCAA top-25 poll.

As a regional winner, Wassermann is now eligible for selection as national coach of the year.
