Myers Named Daktronics Inc. First Team All-Midwest Region; Wise and Savage Second Team

QUINCY, Ill. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team placed three student-athletes on the 2012 Daktronic Inc. All-Midwest Region first team and second teams as announced by the regional committee today (Nov. 19).  Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS.), Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) and Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Salem HS) were all selected to the team.

Zach Myers, a senior captain, has started all 23 matches this season for the SVSU men's soccer program, posting a GLIAC best 16 goals with two assists after switching positions from defense to forward this season. Myers has scored two or more goals in five matches this season and became the first men's soccer player in GLIAC history to win both 'Offensive Player of the Year' and 'Defensive Player of the Year' honors in their career. Myers picked up the golden goal in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Sunday (Nov. 18) in double-overtime at Northeastern State as the Cardinals clinched their first-ever Final Four berth.

Lachlan Savage, a junior midfielder, is currently second on the team with 10 goals scored and five game winners this season.  Savage also tallied the game-winning goal in Saginaw Valley's Round of 16 overtime victory against Rockhurst on Saturday (Nov. 16).

Jason Wise, a senior goalkeeper, has started all 23 contests in net this season for the Cardinals.  He has allowed just 16 goals this season and has recorded 13 shutouts this year.  Wise has compiled a 0.685 goals against average and ranks 11th nationally.

The No. 12 Cardinals ran their unbeaten streak to 13 games as they defeated Northeastern State University 1-0 on November 18 to advance to the NCAA Final Four for the first time in school history.  

SVSU will play No. 2 Simon Fraser on Thursday (Nov. 29) in the semifinals for the chance to advance to the National Championship game on December 1.
