Cardinals Claim GLIAC Tournament Championship with 1-0 Victory over Notre Dame

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The No. 18 Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team captured their first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship with a 1-0 shutout victory over Notre Dame College today (Nov. 4) at the SVSU Soccer Complex.

The Cardinals would get the only goal of the game in the 33rd minute when Craig Neal (Bay City, Mich.) chipped a shot to the back post from the right side of the 18 that beat the keeper.  Neal's goal would be setup on a pass down the right side of the field by defender Michael Lamb (Sunderland, England).

The Saginaw Valley defensive unit increased their shutout streak against Division II opponents to nine straight with the victory. Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) lowers his goals against average to 0.72 as he worked all 90 minutes in the championship victory.  The Cardinals also extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games.

Goalkeeper Jason Wise, defender Taylor Clarke (Cary, Ill.), forward Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS) and midfielder Craig Neal were all selected to the 2012 GLIAC Men's Soccer All-Tournament team after the victory.
