No. 24 Cardinals Post Sixth Straight GLIAC Shutout; Defeat Findlay 2-0

FINDLAY, Ohio - The No. 24 ranked Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team came away with a 2-0 road victory over the Findlay Oilers this afternoon (Oct. 26). The win for the Cardinals extends their shutout streak to six games within the GLIAC.

Saginaw Valley accounted for most of the offensive pressure in the early minutes before senior Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern HS) finished off a breakaway goal from Zach Walega (Saline, Mich.) to give the Cardinals the early edge ten minutes into the contest.

The Cardinals pushed their lead to 2-0 at the 66th minute mark of the second half on another tally from Myers. Senior Robert Short (Goodrich, Mich.) assisted on the second breakaway goal of the match for Myers as he coasted down the right side to beat the Findlay goalkeeper.

Zach Myers currently leads the GLIAC in goals (13) and points (27), while Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) leads the conference in goals-against average (0.83) including nine shutouts. Wise turned away five Oiler shots in the victory.

SVSU finishes the conference schedule with a mark of 9-2-2 and currently sits atop the GLIAC standings.
