Cardinals Slay Dragons on Senior Day, 4-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team claimed a 4-0 victory over visiting Tiffin University today (Oct. 21) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at the SVSU Soccer Complex on Senior Day.

The Cardinals (11-2-3, 8-2-2 GLIAC) would claim a 1-0 lead over the visiting Dragons (5-7-2, 4-6-1 GLIAC) after Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth Salem) headed in a ball that was deflected by the Tiffin keeper on a breakaway by Zach Walega (Saline, Mich. / Saline HS) in the 5th minute.  Saginaw Valley would add their second goal of the game in the 30th minutes when a shot by Zach Vasold (Freeland, Mich. / Freeland HS) was directed into the goal by Conor Reaume (Troy, Mich. / Troy HS).

Junior Taylor Clarke (Cary, Ill. / Cary-Grove HS) would find the back of the net on a header to give SVSU a 3-0 advantage in the the 55th minute off of a free kick by Savage from just outside the right of the 18.  Saginaw Valley would score their fourth and final goal in the 71st minute when a Cedric Daley (Montego Bay, Jamaica / Cornwall College) shot from the top of the 18 was deflected past the keeper by Mitch Posuniak (Canton, Mich. / Canton HS) to give the Cardinals the 4-0 final.

Senior goalkeeper Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) recorded his 11th win of the season in his final regular season home contest as a Cardinal, stopping the only two shots he faced in the game to notch his eighth shutout of the season.

The Cardinals will return to action on Friday (Oct. 26) when they travel to the University of Findlay to close out the GLIAC portion of their 2012 schedule.
