Cardinals Fly by Eagles, 1-0

ASHLAND, Ohio -  The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team came away with a tough 1-0 win on the road at Ashland University today (Oct. 14) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.

After playing a scoreless first half the Cardinals would register the games only goal when Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth Salem) found the back of the net off of an assist from Robert Short (Goodrich, Mich. / Goodrich HS) at the 71:54 minute mark. The Cardinal defense would continue their strong play and hold on for the 1-0 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) earned his ninth win of the season for the Cardinals as he stopped all six shots he faced for the game. Wise now holds a 1.01 goals against average, which is the lowest in the conference.

The Cardinals improve their record to 9-2-3 overall on the season and 6-2-2 atop the GLIAC standings, while Ashland falls to 7-5-1 overall on the year and 5-5 in the conference.

SVSU will return to action on Friday (Oct. 19) at 4:30 PM when they host rival Northwood University for a pivotal matchup at the SVSU Soccer Complex.
