Cardinals Shutout Cavaliers, 3-0, on First Half of Road Trip

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The No. 21 Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team defeated Walsh University, 3-0, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest today (Oct. 5).

The Cardinals (8-2-1, 5-2-1) hit the road in style controlling the Cavaliers 3-0. It did not take long for SVSU and Zach Walega (Saline, Mich. / Saline HS) to find the back of the net off of a rebound at the 15:26 mark to start the Cardinals flight to victory.

Moments later Zack Minor (Hartland, Mich. / Hartland HS) found Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern HS) for his 10th goal of the season. Cardinals entered halftime with 12 shots and leading on the scoreboard 2-0.

The Cardinals held on to their momentum from the first half of play, which produced another blistering goal off the foot of Myers in the 87th minute. The Cardinals went on to win by a score of 3-0. Myers leads the conference with 11 goals on the year, three more than any other player.

Goalkeeper Jason Wise (Troy, Mich. / Troy HS) went on to earn the shutout, finishing the game with three saves on the night for his eighth win of the season.

"Tonight was a great way for the team to bounce back after last Sunday," commented head coach Cale Wassermann.  "We executed well on both sides of the ball and getting a shutout on the road is never is easy. We look forward to Sunday where hopefully we can keep the momentum going."

The Cardinals will return to action on Sunday (Oct. 7) at 1:00 PM as they stay on the road to face Malone University in another GLIAC match-up.
