Cardinals Fall Short Against Panthers, 3-2

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the second half of play but was not able to hold on for a victory over Ohio Dominican today (Sept. 30) at the SVSU Soccer Complex in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.

The first goal to register on the SVSU Soccer Complex scoreboard would come from the Panthers' Casey Weddle off of a penalty kick at the 27:48 mark of the first half. Panthers were able to hold on to a 1-0 led over the Cardinals going into halftime.

Returning from half, the Cardinals scored quickly off the foot of Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern HS) on a nice assist from Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth Salem) to bring SVSU to a 1-1 tie in the 46th minute mark.

The second goal from the Cardinals came in the 69th minute off the foot of Zach Walega (Saline, Mich. / Saline HS) putting the the Cardianls up 2-1. Ten minutes later Weddle found himself kicking another penalty kick which ended in another Panthers goal. After the equalizer from Weddle bringing the game to a 2-2 tie neither team was able to score forcing the game into overtime.

Ohio Dominican would find the back of the net in the 94th minute to end the game in overtime.

The SVSU will return to action at Walsh University on Oct. 5 at 7:00 PM
