Cardinals Tie Dragons, 1-1

Cardinals Tie Dragons, 1-1

TIFFIN, Ohio. - The No. 16 Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team continued their road trip with a 1-1 tie in double overtime against the Dragons of Tiffin University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest today (Sept. 23).

The first half of the game ended at a scoreless 0-0 tie, as the Cardinals (6-1-1, 3-1-1) and Dragons battled in an intense defensive matchup leading into intermission.

SVSU found the back of the net for the first goal of the game at the 64-minute mark when Dylan Knott (Oakland, Mich. / Rochester Adams HS) directed a header off of a throw in from the side by Robert Short (Goodrich, Mich. / Goodrich HS) past the Dragon keeper. Tiffin would answer with their own header for a goal, this one off of a corner kick, to tie the game at 1-1 and force overtime.

Both teams would go scoreless in both overtime sessions forcing the game to end in a 1-1 tie.  The Cardinals outshot the Dragons 19-14 in the contest.

SVSU senior goalkeeper Jason Wise (Troy, Mich. / Troy HS) saved five of the six shots he faced against the Dragons.

The Cardinals will return back to action Sept. 28 at home as they host Notre Dome (OH) at the SVSU Soccer Complex.
