No. 16 Cardinals Record Third Straight Shutout, Down Storm 4-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The No. 16 Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team defeated the Storm of Lake Erie College this afternoon (Sept. 21), 4-0. The Cardinals improve to 6-1 overall on the season and 3-1 in the GLIAC, while Lake Erie falls to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

It did not take long for the Cardinals (6-1, 3-1 GLIAC) to get on the scoreboard as Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern HS) scored off of his own rebound to give SVSU the early 1-0 edge just six minutes into the contest.  SVSU entered the half outshooting the Storm 19-11 and with the 1-0 advantage on the scoreboard.

The Cardinals came out ready to fly through the Storm in the second half as Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth Salem) netted a goal at the 70:31 minute mark. One minute later, Myers added his second goal of the afternoon and seventh of the season off of a crossing pass from Savage to put the Cardinals up 3-0.

Mitch Reinhart (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth Canton HS) found the back of the net for the first time this season with a boot from 20 yards out in the 84th minute as the Cardinals cruised to victory over the Storm, 4-0.

Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) picked up the shutout in net for SVSU as he earned his sixth win of the season with three saves. Wise has trimmed his goals against average to a slim 1.03 and amongst the best in the GLIAC.

The Cardinals will return back to action on the road against the Dragons of Tiffin University on Sunday (Sept. 23).
